Is ENYC TVET Support Programme Needed?
The ENYC TVET Support Programme is necessary as it will achieve the following objectives:
- Increased opportunities for youth income generation through youth access to advisory services and increased number of businesses hiring rural youth.
- Increased ability to generate incomes through financial literacy training and career development skills.
- Increased motivation to take advantage of those opportunities, through increased youth self-confidence and understanding of career choices.
- Strengthened relations with private sector to engage with youth.
- Establishment and increased youth cooperatives model.
Independent Livelihoods For The Youth
Entrepreneur By Choice
These are young people who have an entrepreneurial idea, and choose to create a business to generate an income and sustain themselves. Their biggest barrier is lack of resources to transform their idea into a thriving business. This group will be supported to move their concepts into viable business plans ready for financing, and then into the next stage of successful start-up and growth.
Entrepreneur by Necessity
These are young people who are either unemployed or underemployed and therefore need other ways to generate an income. Usually, this is due to a lack of formal qualifications, lack of practical skills training (e.g TVET), and a poor job market. This group will be supported through "experiential business" activities, which are low-risk enterprise often set-up as a group business with a small seed capital, to help the youth generate an income and improve their entrepreneurial skills.
TVET Graduates
These are young people who have either completed or are nearing completion of their TVET training. This group will be supported with mentorship and entrepreneurial kick start. Participants will be provided with platforms for youth collaboration, networking, and access to tendering and industry placement opportunities, particularly within government institutions. In entrepreneurial kick start, qualifying participants will undergo comprehensive training to prepare them for the entrepeneurship and they will be awarded starter kits (tools and machinery), so they can generate an income.
